It seems like #there has been a lot of discussion of late, of how the CRTC's ruling on Bell Canada's throttling/Network Management of it's residential connections has as an effect.
Again and again, it seems to become a larger issue of network neutrality.
Basically, the idea that those who deliver transport to the internet, shouldn't interfere with others content.
Clearly it is understandable how a company that is both a media outlet (BellGlobalmedia) and internet service provider (ISP) like Bell Internet (formerly Sympatico) would love nothing more to strangle anything but their own content on their internet connections.
But since they have a monopoly on the infrastructure that enables DSL (High speed internet over phone lines) connectivity and that the CRTC has ruled that third party ISPs/Resellers should be allowed to use the same infrastructure... tricky to be fair.
What is to keep Bell Canada from discriminating and delivering at reduced rates, content that is less profitable for themselves?
That's kind of the sticky of it.
So... I would like to see people saying what they think about this, here...
If not, I will at least try to compile ideas from all over and give people the opportunity to either comment or refine the ideas.
As an ultimate goal it would be nice to have a nice concise, plain english list of concerns, issues or even demands to put forward to the CRTC before Feburary 2009, when it has decided to adress these issues.
Thank you for your time. |
